Our name changed to Knowstosis

As of 1 November 2010 The Marketing Shop officially trades as Knowstosis.  The legal entity The Marketing Shop (Pty.) Ltd. will change to Knowstosis (Pty.) Ltd. early in January 2011. Why the change?

Some history

To understand the change one has to understand the reason for adopting the name The Marketing Shop in the first place. The original company, formed in 1989, Associated Information Technologist or AIT was focussed on data and information. When AIT acquired media interest in the mid-1990′s and subsequently got absorbed in a larger media conglomerate it made sense to offer a “one stop marketing shop”. So the name “The Marketing Shop” was born and was very suitable for the services it offered. When management bought The Marketing Shop back from Billboard Ltd. in 2001 they only acquired the original AIT component (i.e. no media interests), but by then The Marketing Shop had emerged as the premier brand for market research and information gathering in the automotive sector so that there was no need to change the name. At the same time between 2001 and 2005 The Marketing Shop did successful brand transitions for a number of companies so that the name still had some relevance.

Since 2005, however, the focus had become increasingly on management consulting and a solutions based approach to consulting = hence The Marketing Shop’s slogan “knowledge based solutions”. We also increasingly focussed more in the information portion of our clients businesses rather than the creative or media components. The Marketing Shop as brand went from strength to strength in the industry, but increasingly there was a disconnect between the company’s services and its name. This tension was not very strongly felt in South Africa due to long standing relationships with our clients of more than two decades as most clients understood the growth and changes within our company.

Today

When we started expansion into the UK and Europe in 2010 this disconnect became very clear so that our operations in new markets necessitated this name change. Knowstosis is a combination of knowledge + process or the process of knowledge, which is really what all our services are about. In everything that The Marketing Shop has done in the past five years we have been focused on knowledge which is why Knowstosis is “embracing knowledge”
